Chandrayaan 3 vs Luna 25: Which lands first on Moon!

Chandrayaan 3 vs Luna 25: Could the Russia’s Luna 25 take the record to land on the South pole of moon to land first than Chandrayaan 3? Read more to know.

Chandrayaan 3 vs Luna 25

By Infinity Byte: India’s Proud Space rocket Chandrayaan 3 which is launched from the Sriharikota is about to create a record of first one to launch on the South Pole of Moon. Every Indian is very excited about this mission’s Success. On August 23rd Chandrayaan 3 is going to launch on moon.

Chandrayaan 3 vs Luna 25: Till today, no other country has landed on the Moon’s south pole. Our Chnadrayaan 3 is the first one to do this. But the twist comes here, Before the Chandrayaan 3, Russia’s Luna-25 is going to land on the Moon’s South pole.

If Russia gets succeeded in this mission, the record which we dreamt of will be taken away by Russia.

Luna 25 Spacecraft

Chandrayaan 3 vs Luna 25: Russia is going to launch the Luna 25 spacecraft on August 11th. This Spacecraft on August 21st or 22nd is expected to land on the moon’s south pole. This means that Lunar 25 is going to land one day or two days before India’s Chandrayaan 3. Our Spacecraft is going to land on August 23rd evening. The Russians are going to beat us if this is the scenario.

Chandrayaan 3 strategy

Chandrayaan 3 vs Luna 25: Now, everyone have a question in their mind. As Chandrayaan launched on July 14, much more ahead than Luna 25, then how could Luna 25 reach the Moon first?

Chandrayaan 3 takes 40 days’ time to land on Moon and why Russia takes only 11-12 days to reach on to the moon?

The reason behind this is, our Chandrayaan 3 which is launched on July 14 has made 4 full rounds in earth’s orbit , increased the distance and then in the 5th round went towards the Lunar orbit i.e., it got injected into the moon’s orbit here. This injection is known as Translunar Injection. This is achieved on August 5th.

Now, it is making some concentric orbits around the moon. Eventually the radius of the orbit decreases, and it will be at a position where it is at a right speed and right altitude where it can make the landing onto the moon slowly. This landing is expected on August 23, evening 5.32 PM by reducing its speed by 2 meters per second.

Recently Chandrayaan 3 has captured the moon photos and sent to ISRO. These are proudly published by the ISRO through the twitter. ISRO also posted the earth viewed by Lander Imager Camera on the day of launch and moon imaged by the Lander Horizontal Velocity Camera a day after the Lunar Injection.

As everyone are so proud of the Chandrayaan 3 updates and the close-up pictures of moon captured, meanwhile our fellow Country Russia gave a big shock.

LUNA 25 Strategy

Chandrayaan 3 vs Luna 25: Luna 25 is the Russia’s famous spacecraft name. This is going to be launched from the Vostochny cosmodrome space station on August 11 by the Russia’s space agency ROSCOSMOS. This space station is located in the Moscow’s far east side. The name of the rocket which is carrying the Luna 25 is SOYUZ-02 booster.

The process of landing the Luna25 on the moon’s south pole is almost same as the Chandrayaan 3. SOYUZ-02 rocket carries the LUNA 25 spacecraft up to the earth’s orbit and then the Soyuz-02 rocket boosters gets separated from the spacecraft, drops down to the earth. As a part of preventing their people from any damage by these dropped parts the villages which are in the surrounding areas of Space station are vacated and moved to the safe locations.

The major difference comes here the LUNA 25 makes only one complete round in earth orbit and in the second round itself it makes the translunar injection which means it enters into the Lunar orbit.

In addition to this, in the Lunar Orbit also LUNA 25 makes only one round and in the second round it reaches a altitude of 100kms from the moon. Here the propulsion or the barking module gets separated. LUNA 25 stays upto 5 – 7 days in Moon’s orbit to choose the suitable landing spot on the moon. After choosing the spot LUNA’s lander slowly controls its speed and lands on the south pole of moon. This complete process is done by LUNA 25 in just 10 – 11 days . Approximately this landing occurs on August 21 or 22.

Chandrayaan 3 vs LUNA 25

Chandrayaan 3 vs Luna 25: Here are the key points which makes the difference.

Chandrayaan 3 makes 4 full rounds in earth orbitLuna 25 makes only one round
Making Concentric circles around the Lunar orbitMakes only one circle in Lunar orbit
Launching Vikram Lander and Pragyan RoverLaunching only Lander
Pragyan Rover survives for only 14 days on moonLuna 25 lander survives for 1 year.
Luna 25 lander studies moon’s soil and also drills the moon’s surface and studies water samples. Luna 25 along with it carried 31 kgs scientific equipment for all these studies. It also collects rock’s sample and tests the freezed water inside the rocks.

Chandrayaan 3 Vikram lander and Luna 25 lander does not collide with each other. Both are preplanned and land in various locations.

Why Luna 25 faster than Chandrayaan 3

Chandrayaan 3 vs Luna 25: The rocket which is used to carry LUNA 25 spacecraft SOYUZ-02 is very powerful. It can deliver 8,500 kgs of payload on low earth orbit whereas Chandrayaan 3’s LVM rocket can deliver only 4000 kgs. But LVM 3 is equally powerful.

Basically the speed depends upon the design, budget and technology. The budget given to Chandrayaan 3 is only 615 crores only whereas the LUNA 25 budget is double than this.
